Arroyos...

So, this is what's going on at our house:

The minions are a bit obsessed with the drainage ditch.

So far the the ditch has been home to:

Explorers who are being chased by anacondas, cameraman that are being chased by piranhas, and hunters that are being chased by deadly wolves.

I'm sensing a theme here.

It has also been haunted by a Mom that wants her kids to get out of it and get in the bath so they can be in bed on time so she can play Mario read the classics.

At two am last night I woke up and realized they hadn't washed their hands before dinner after playing in the ditch all afternoon.

Ick.

Ouch.

Awww...

And yes, that last picture was totally staged.

Of course, I can't help thinking about all the Rescue 911's I watched as a kid where a sudden flood sweeps through a ditch and the kids playing in it get swept away.

It's a concern.

I googled it and learned all about arroyos (the Spanish word for ditch) and how we need to stay away from them.

There is a whole website devoted to it!

So, you can thank me for that.

The witch is scary but the kids can still play in it.

It's a little ditch.

I mean...

To my kids it's the dang Amazon River.

But to me, it's easily traversed.

  1. Do you remember that ditch that wrapped around your house on Merridian? It flooded once and Kirk, Joe, Robb and I all played in it. It was waste deep and rushing brown water! I remember Robb and I clinging for life to a float we got out of your garage. Meanwhile Kirk had his shirt off and was just lazily swimming along like a fish. It was the most fun. Yes our 'rents might have passed a stone if they'd seen us but they didn't and we were all the stronger for it. Let 'em play I say!

    1. We did that many times. That old Hawaiian Punch got a lot os use during rain storms. I remember floating in that ditch and seeing bottles floating by!

  2. I thought I was the only one who remembered Rescue 911 and its cheesy stories about kids being washed away.

Also, God bless kids, they always want to play in the most disgusting places. And washing hands is something they really don't care about. Meanwhile, I can go through a bottle of hand sanitizer in a week, without going near any ditches...
